Maginness regrets decision on Ardoyne parade
Wed 2nd December

SDLP North Belfast MLA Alban Maginness has expressed his disappointment at the decision by the Parades Commission not to review their decision to allow the Apprentice Boys to march past Ardoyne, despite the Shankill Star Band displaying symbols commemorating UVF murderer Brian Robinson.

Mr. Maginness said, “I am extremely disappointed by the decision of the Parades Commission not to review their decision of the 26th November as we had requested. The proposed inclusion of this band is a serious error on behalf of the Parades Commission. They carry the name of Brian Robinson who murdered Patrick McKenna 20 years ago right there at the Ardoyne flashpoint.

“I would appeal to the Apprentice Boys to unilaterally forgo the services of this particular band in the interest of community relations and public order and I would call on everyone to exercise responsibility and restraint before, during, and after the parade on Saturday.”
