MAGINNESS CALLS FOR FULL EXPLANATION ON WRIGHT INQUIRY
QC CLAIMS SDLP Justice Spokesperson Alban Maginness MLA has demanded an explanation after a lead legal council in the Billy Wright inquiry claimed that he had been dismissed from the case rather than having resigned as had been originally claimed. Speaking today Mr Maginness stated: “It is clear that a number of questions need to be answered around Derek Batchelor’s departure from the Billy Wright inquiry. A public hearing of the inquiry was told last week that he had resigned as lead council. Mr Batchelor has now stated that he had no intention of resigning and was, in fact, dismissed. This
is an extremely serious development and demands an explanation.
It may cause further unnecessary interruption and delay to the
inquiry and may undermine many peoples faith in the process. That
is why there needs to be a full, frank, and public disclosure
of what has happened as soon as possible.” |
