MAGINNESS: SDLP COMMITTED TO ROTATION IN BELFAST

SDLP group leader on Belfast City Council Alban Maginness said the party is totally committed to rotation and cross-community sharing of posts.

He said: “We are totally committed to rotation so we will seriously consider a Sinn Fein candidate the next time around. What Sinn Fein are complaining about is not the fact that the SDLP rotates but rather the sequence that the SDLP rotates and they want to dictate that and we are saying that we will make our own minds up about the sequence.

“Sinn Fein were openly bragging about having a deal with the Ulster Unionists over the last few weeks. But they did not support our mayoral or deputy mayoral candidates on two previous occasions, so it’s a bit rich for them to complain about us.”
