KELLY,
MAGINNESS SPEAK TO PEACE SEMINAR
North Belfast MLA Alban Maginness, and Dolores Kelly MLA, SDLP
Equality Spokesperson, have said that the North has much to offer
the global stage from its lessons in conflict resolution, and
plenty and to learn as well. Speaking after attending a Roundtable
seminar as part of Community Relations Week, Mr
Maginness
said:
“It was with great interest that I listened to Mr Klekovski
discuss the shared challenges faced by the North and the Macedonians
in terms of building a shared future. Having experienced deep
division themselves, there was a common view that only a firm
commitment to social justice would result in stable, integrated
peace.
Mrs Kelly added:
“Next week devolution will finally become the reality we
have been waiting for. But it would be wrong to simply assume
that an equal and shared society will follow. It will take real
power sharing, not power carving. Stormont, without direct rule,
is the vehicle that can take us on the road to the equality we
have long sought. Our party has long believed that everyone deserves
the same fair chances, and will work hard in the Assembly to make
sure they get them. Experiences like today can only better prepare
us. This week is a chance to put an equal and shared North firmly
in the spotlight. What better way could we get ready for government?”
