NOW IS THE TIME FOR FULL RESTORATION

Speaking after today’s Preparation for Government Committee in Stormont SDLP Equality Spokesperson Patricia Lewsley MLA stated:
“The SDLP argued that this is not the time for small steps or half measures. The SDLP proposed that now is the time for full restoration. This would build confidence. This will be the position that the SDLP will propose and pursue in the coming weeks.
SDLP Policing Spokesperson Alex Attwood MLA continued:

“If confidence is to be sustained, Downing Street must jettison the culture of side deals which drive doubt and deepen mistrust. Everything upfront and everything on the table must be the standards of any process in the coming months. This approach and the principles of an inclusive democracy and a lawful society must be the parameters of the next, final phase of political discussions.

SDLP Justice Spokesperson Alban Maginness MLA stated:
“The SDLP have dedicated proposals on culture, which were considered at today’s meeting including:

  • Further efforts to extend TG4 across the North.
  • Full implementation of the European Charter on lesser-used languages and a new Irish Language Act.
  • Making it a crime to fly any flag from public property.
These shall be some of the proposals that will inform the SDLP approach to negotiations in the coming months.”
