MAGINNESS
- NON DEPORTED PRISONERS COULD BE AT LARGE IN NORTH
SDLP Justice Spokesperson Alban Maginness MLA has spoken of his
concern after the Secretary of State today revealed to the SDLP
that at least eight foreign prisoners who should have been deported
after spending time in prison in the North could still be at large
within the jurisdiction.
Mr
Maginness stated:
“Obviously this is very worrying and disturbing news. It
seems that those who may still be at large in the North have been
found guilty of such crimes as Grievous Bodily Harm and armed
robbery, amongst others. They remain a very real danger to the
community and it remains baffling and unforgivable that the British
Government has no idea where they are. This only further points
to a culture of systemic failure in the Home and Immigration Office.
The British Government must act quickly to get a handle on this
situation.”
