MAGINNESS COMMENTS ON RELEASE OF KEN BARRETT

SDLP Justice Spokesperson and North Belfast MLA Alban Maginness has commented on the news that the man convicted of the murder of Pat Finucane, Ken Barrett, has been released from Prison. Speaking today Mr Maginness stated:

“This will be a difficult day for the family of Pat Finucane but it should be made clear that the release of Ken Barrett does not by any means end the issue. Whatever Barretts role in the murder of Pat Finucane, it remains essential that the full truth behind the murder, the activities of the FRU and the approval for the FRU in and around government must be made public and acknowledged. The failure of Downing Street to honour its commitment to a public, independent inquiry must be challenged, exposed and overturned. The family deserve and justice demands nothing less.”
